12 Days of Christmas Release Party

What began as a project on a whim has finally reached the finish line! In my search for quality music appreciation resources several years ago, I discovered and fell in love with the Thomas Tapper “Child’s Own Book of Great Musicians” series. This series is unique compared to other composer biographies because students actually construct the book like a scrapbook!

My children have enjoyed cutting and pasting the pictures as they work through the biographies, but I found that the average homeschool family didn’t have the same well to draw from when it came to listening activities.

Tara says:

I like the simplicity of the readings and the actual photos to cut and paste. The book is written well and I am excited to use the others in the series. I also enjoyed the photos not simply being on two pages with a small reading but interspersed throughout the readings. A wonderful keepsake as we move forward in our music journey.

My degree is in music education with over 10 years classroom experience. “Active listening” has been a main component in my lessons. A variety of theory study, movement, playing accompaniment, and more have deeply enriched our music appreciation courses both in our individual home school and co-op settings!

My wheels began to turn and think up a way I could share many of these activities with my fellow educator friends, as well as encourage the use of the Thomas Tapper books. That’s how “Composer Study Companion” was born!

The 12 composer biographies published way back in 1915 now have a new modern companion! Parents can easily find the best curated musical selections to accompany the information in the “Composer Study Companion.” In addition to the Thomas Tapper biography, a longer biography is included for older students and parents to enjoy as well as a short biographical sketch at the beginning of each chapter to help visualize the strengths and personality of each composer.

Six musical selections have been curated to include some background information about the music, as well as a suggested activity to help students understand the music they hear. These activities will guide them to work on their listening observations as well as familiarize them with the famous themes.

Playlists are easily linked in each chapter and a glossary is included at the back of the book to help clarify any musical vocabulary that is unknown!

Join me on the Facebook page from December 25-January 6 as I reveal a favorite recording and activity from the “Composer Study Companion” and don’t forget to pre-order your book!

I’m so excited to hear how this resource helps you!
